I need to know about fishing for mullet?

I have decided i want to take up the task of fishing for grey mullet using course fishing tactics. I tried it today but the fish didnt seem intrested. i was using bread and sweet corn but the fish just swam past it all. CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME TIPS ON WHAT TO DO?
THANK YOU

My Hubby is a fisherman,{ actually that is where he is right now, on the canal,} belive me they all have days like that, sometimes they don't catch a thing even fishing from morning till night, , if you have a local bait shop, ask in there they will give you all the tips you need,

i fish for snapper in Morten Bay AUS on plastics and are only catching the occasional squire?

i use berkly 3" swimming mullet and the 4"curried chicken shad and usually a 1/4 tt jig-head

Recently, I've had success with hard plastics (about 3") & squid around wave break Island (between Nth & Sth Straddy) with Mangrove Jack, on 15kg gear.
A mate of mine of mine just picked up a couple of nice snapper at Flinders reef (about 5km N/W of morton island). Don't know what he was using.

Can I catch mullet with a fishing pole?

Ok me ande my friends see like 2-3 foot mullets and they are the hugest fish in our ditches so we want to catch them. How do you catch them with a fishing hook. I know a spot where there is like 5 mullet per a 10 by 10 area upto 20 by 20 area feet or so but more like 10 by 10. The water is clear too. They swim in packs of 5 or so too. Any tips to catch will be appreciated and how to catch them. Can someone tell me how long it would to catch one since they are everywhere

The best way to catch mullet is with a cast net but you can catch them on hooks in 3 ways.
One way is to fly fish for them. Use a 6 weight system with white colored slow sinking flies. This is extreme fishing for a mullet. The other way is to use a small hook with a small dough ball like biscuit dough. this takes a while unless you have trained the mullet onto the bait you offer. In short, feed the mullets for a few days with the bait and then go back and catch what you need. The third way is to use multiple hooks on a line and try snagging them. The last way would be faster but will wear out your arm because the school is too loose. In other words, there are only 5 or so in the school. If I were you, I'd get a 7-8 foot cast net and wait for the school to pass within casting distance and toss out the net. You'll quickly catch bait this way without too much work.

Stop_ just gave ya a chumming / training method. It works, give it a try. Thumbs up Stop_. Oh yeah, by the way, Mullet is an under rated eating fish. They taste pretty good as a matter of fact. Steer clear of the fried roe...that's some nasty stuff!! LOL.

Also why does everyone say it is hard. What is hard. What part? Hooking them, or bringing them in. Think I could catch one atleast per 20 minutes?
Oh yeah I bought size 8 hooks like someone said last time. You guys sure this isnt small? It is like barely if that 1 cm from end hook to where hook starts to bend and barely an inch tall???

Size 6 hooks are what you want, (but 8's will do the job).

When I was a boy we would catch them behind my house in Fla on the ICW.

They are a bit tough to catch because they tend to "mouth" the bait, (in this case a bread dough ball), forever!

Mouthing the bait??- they will take your cork under numerous times and you never REALLY know when to strike. (However, this can make for some exciting fishing!) They tend to drop the bait in a split second if they feel any type of "bad vibe"!

Thats why many Mullet fishermen use a "Cane Pole" out-fit. A 12-13 Ft heavy canepole ,(NOT one of those cheapy, skinny cane-poles, from Walmart), very small cork and size 6 hook. Pro Mullet guys will wait til the cork goes under, and then SLOWLY raise their canes til they "feel" weight on the line; then STRIKE!

Anyway-The KEY to Mullet fishing is chumming them enough to get them into a "feeding frenzy".

Me and my friends would go through (at least) a loaf of bread and a box of bread meal in an afternoon.

If you see a school coming through toss some bread on the surface. That will get them going.

Try it!

It works!

And when you get tired of fooling around with them, with ONE good cast from a cast-net you can catch the whole SCHOOL! (lol)

Animals reproduce by spawning & releasing sperm/eggs into the water as they swim in schools. This includes:?

a. tunas and kink mackerels
b. sharks and rays
c. mullet and damselfishes
d. seahorses and pipefishes
e. all of these

answer is A.
Sharks use internal fertilisation (at least some of them do anyway)
seahorse form lifelong pairs and the males hold the eggs in pouches around their belly until they hatch
damselfishes select mates.
So of these options, the only fishes which spawn into open water without mate selection are tunas, mackerels etc (Family Scombridae)

Please! Hair experts HELP! (need styling tips)?

This has been bugging the hell out of me for the last 20 years. Finally I decided to find a hair forum and go to the experts.

Im a 21 yr old male. Mexican/Native American (50/50) and I have VERY THICK VERY STRAIGHT hair. Every single hair cutter I've ever met has commented on it. I hate it. hate it hate it hate it. I cannot do a short style i.e. anything under 1/2 and inch or it will just poke straight out like a porcupine. no amount of gel, hairspray, glue, wax, putty will control it. Right now I have a faux hawk and the top looks nice @ about 2 inches(I use garnier putty) but the sides are approximately 3/4" and it will not lie down against my head. Its always trying to poke straight out away from my head. It doesn't sound like a big problem but it is. It makes my head appear much fatter/wider than it is. which makes my face look more round (when i already have a round face). Which makes me look fatter (when I am not fat at all). I have to wait for the sides to get about 1 1/2 inches before i can "slick" it down which makes my face look more oval and compliments my jawline. But to have the side of my hair that long when trying to do a short haircut looks real weird not to mention it looks like a mullet in the back. and if i wanted to go swimming (or surfing like I do alot) you can forget it. Once all the wax is gone my hair just puffs into a puffball afro mohawk thingy. cant drive with the windows down and paranoid about people messing with my hair.

Thats the problem. A friend of mine said to try a hair relaxer from wal-mart in the African American womens section. He did it to his hair and it felt gross, real wirey and stiff. Would this make my hair "relax" and lie down? I know its to straighten curly hair but my friend does the same faux hawk and his looked sweet and he said there was nothing to keep it up. The other thing I've been considering is growing my hair out to a long surfer/skater style. Ive tried this before but still had a huge problem with the whole puff ball deal when getting out of the pool or any time the gel came out. Also the back looked terrible just a lump of hanging hair no flip or anything to it. just like 4 inches or gel'ed crap.

Anyone with a solution or suggestion would be a lifesaver. Ideally, in my dreams , I want a short stylish style that I don't have to worry about my motorcycle helmet, or surfing or wresting or sweating or driving windows down. Even a long style that has a little style or movement other than just a clump or hair that makes me look like the Beetles. pretty much just like a Caucasian super sweet hair-du so I can get all the super sweet white girls that I get along with much more then anyone else.

If you still dont get what Im talking about, let me continue to describe. I can wax the side down right now @ 3/4 inch and blow dry it, but after about 2 minutes it automatically pops back back. at like a 45% angle from my head, making it look like a freakin mushroom.

okay I'm done.
Thanks!

let your hair grow out get a permon the sides not NOT spiral just curled under then cut it

Incredible

Before this product was introduced, I used the Berkley 8" powerbait sandworm as a trailer on bucktail jigs for fluke ( summer flunder ) to very good effect. When this became availabe, it was tried - experimently - in place of the powerbait and the results were nothing short of incredible. My catch ratios increased some 400% to 500% after using this product. Without a doubt, this easily and consistantly outfishes live bait in the surf and on piers for fluke along the New Jersey Shore.
