Bait Feeder Reel

Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder

Description: The Avenger Baitfeeder spinning reel features Okuma's patented Bait Feeding System which allows you to fish live bait in freespool mode. An adjustable microdrag increases and reduces tension to the bait to fit the application. The reel also has Quick-set anti-reverse that has a corrosion-resistant stainless steel roller bearing which engages the handle instantly and eliminates handle backplay. The reel retrieves smoothly thanks to six stainless steel ball bearings and the Okuma Even-Flow roller. (according to Cableas)

Pros: I personally own two of these reels used them as my carp reels for 2 years and in that time they withstood all the punishment I put them through. Nowadays they are used as my catfish reels since I upgraded to far better reels. Holds a tremendous amount of line, and fairly good drag. Price isn't bad either for a baitrunner, $40-$60. Cons: The baitrunner sometimes won't engage properly so make sure you pull out a little line to check if it engaged! It's not the most glamorous baitrunner either. The handles tend to wiggle after heavy use. I would have preferred a double handle opposed to the single handle design but that's my own opinion. Conclusion: It's kind of like a double edged sword really, on one hand it's a decent price for a baitrunner with good line lay and drag. The other it's no pageant winner, the baitrunner feature sometimes doesn't engage, and the handle over time and use begins to wiggle. About all I can say is if you want to start fishing with baitrunners this is the way to go unless you can afford a better made one.
