I'm going to my first canyon tuna fishing trip (for Yellowfin, Longfin, Bigeye Tuna, Swordfish, and Mahi) in NJ. I prefer to buy my own gear however found some sets to be in the $1000 range. The Skipper says 80 lb class tackle is needed. So I went on eBay and found this rod (http://cgi.ebay.com/Har-Lee-Stand-Up-Big-Game-Tuna-Fishing-Rod-50-100lb-New_W0QQitemZ350098825231QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350098825231&_trkparms=72%3A1163%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) and this reel (http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-TLD-2-Speed-50L-R-SA-Big-Game-Fishing-Reel-New_W0QQitemZ290261051959QQihZ019QQcategoryZ36162QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262).
This it's a good choice if I throw on some 50 to 80 lb test? Thanks in advance!
The rod lower medium and the reel is upper poor. You will die from such slow reel when a big fish over 40 lb hooked up.Try anything/brands for rods within 130 to 180 or just say under 200.Reels shoulb be within 150 to 220.Go to local tackle to review their point of view.gd luck.

I heared so many fishing reels like spincast reel, spinning reel, surfcasting reel, jigging reel, big game reel/trolling reel, fly reel, baitcaster reel. What are the difference?I really wanna know the difference of the Jigging Reel and the Trolling Reel, baitcaster reel and the trolling reel.Does surfcasting reel the same with the spinning reel?I think the same reel with different fishing lures for different types of fishing,it will have different names,am I right?
Could someone list me all the lures, different lures for different fishing types?
These are your basic fishing reels:
Spinning reels or some times called open faced reels - a good all around reel. The correct size will handle most fish.
Spin cast reels or some times called closed faced reels - usually not as well built as spinning reels. A good choice for lite duty fishing like panfish. Most kids learn to cast with these reels because of ease of use.
Bait cast reels - designed to cast 3/8 oz. lures or heavier. A little harder to use but once mastered you can cast further and more accurate. A favorite of Pro bass fisherman.
Trolling reels - any reel can be used for trolling , often refered to as a level wind reel {similar to a bait cast reel} these reels can have a line counter on them which counts the amount of feet you have out.
Surf reels - can be either spinning or casting reels, the size to match the species you are fishing for.
Fly reels - a special reel to hold your fly line, different sizes or weight # to match you fly rods, these reels are made with and with out a drag.
There are two many lures to list, if you have a species you want to catch I can recommend some of my favorites.

I just purchased a new Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Big Game fishing reel and am wondering what would be a recommended rod for me. I like going surf fishing for stripers and perch as well as fishing for rockfish off of rock points and in coves. I think I prefer a rod in the 9 foot range. I've only used cheapo rods from 8 to 11 feet long. What would be some ideal brands and models for me to check out that would make it capable for me to cast out pretty far and take some abuse from the surf and rocks. Thanks.
One of my surf rods is an old original Calcutta. It.s 11 ft and I have the ABU 7000 big game on it. Be sure to check around and see whats for sale used as well as new. It seems like I've seen allot of junk poles out there in the last few years. I can average about 125yrds with that set up on the surf. 40 yr exp Northwest Pacific guide

What do you think of these things, personally i think they take all the fun out of big game fishing, the whole point in it is that YOU land the fish not the REEL (heres what i mean)

What i want to know is your opinions on this type of thing as cabelas puts it;
With the HS Series, you get the full enjoyment of fighting the fish and feeling the pull without the hard work and tiring effort of cranking.
Ive fished for big game all my life and never used on of these things, what do you think about them?
And i dont intend to fish with them either!
To a sport fisherman, the battle between man and fish is a personal one, and the fish always has the advantage, until landed. I have even lost a few out of the boat....I like to feel the entire battle, and pumping and reeling is part of that battle. "Winching" a fish to the boat is not my cup of tea, but I have been on head boats, where if you don't bring your own equipment, you are stuck using the "electric reels".....I like to catch the largest fish on the lightest tackle possible....If I fish for Red Drum, then I try to beach the fish quickly, with as little stress as possible, so it can be released.....But to me, I have no need for an electric reel, and use single action fly reels instead of automatic....The head boat captains say that the electric reels decrease the number of tangles, and are not as tiring as reeling a fish manually from 300 feet down......But I think I shall battle the fish one on one, and if the fish wins, then he deserved his freedom......

I know Phish and Reel Big Fish have covered the Super Mario Brothers theme, are there any more?
This might not be exactly what you are looking for but this site has a ton of bands that play game inspired music.
