Is the Offshore Angler Power Plus Trophy Spinning Rod and Reel Combos a decent combo for surf fishing?

Im going this january to do some surf & pier fishing in Myrtle Beach SC anyone had much experience with the rod n reel??

the rods are cheap. i used a 9' rod and it said 1-3oz and it snapped in half with a 2oz weight.
use a ugly stik. they are a lot stronger and they are made better. the reels have no problem but i prefer the offshore angler gold cup GC70B

What is a good saltwater rod for offshore fishing in Dana Point California?

What is a good saltwater rod to setup with a baitcasting reel. I plan on doing some charter boat fishing. I want a rod thats affordable but thick and strong and sturdy. Id like the closest thing to an all purpose saltwater rod that can handle calico bass to yellowfin tuna, live baitin and iron jigging. Able to hold heavy 12 plus oz. lures for deep waters. I think you get the picture by now. Any recommendations will help.

My favorite is the Calstar WCDH-270-C (actually, mine is custom wrapped, but it's essentially the same as the Calstar factory rod.) I use it with 20 pound test on a Daiwa SL30SH reel, and have fished with it from Ventura county down to Alijos Rocks, caught everything from bass and halibut to tuna and wahoo to one unfortunate marlin on it. In general, it's best for 5 to 30 pound fish, which is about as close to all-purpose as you can do for So.Cal. fishing.

To be realistic, it's a bit light for fish over 30 pounds, and in deep water I don't use more than 8 ounce jigs on it. (4 ounces or so is the maximum casting weight.) For that kind of stuff, I'd recommend a second outfit, like the 870-C or 970-C -- heavier action, and a foot shorter, and 30 pound line. Use that one for yoyo jigging for local yellowtail, and so on.

You can get away with one outfit most of the time, but you don't want to be out of luck when something breaks, or undergunned when the offshore trip for 10 pound yellowtail finds a wide open spot of 40 pound bluefin. So start with the 20-pound rig, and as soon as you can afford it, add a 30-pound outfit.

Here's the page on Calstar's website listing the West Coast rods: http://www.calstarrods.com/westcoast.htm

whats better on a spinning reel...mono or braided line? If so what would be the best brand?

i just bought a spinning combo. Now i just have to rig it... il probably be fishing 12-20 lbs test with it, around flats and taking it offshore some times for dolphin.

All answers are apreciated. Thank You

HELLO I USE BRAIDED POWER PRO,THEY HAVE A FEW COLORS TO CHOOSE FROM I LIKE THE GREEN FOR SALT WATER, GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT LINES, BAYOUDON

Does UPS ship every day of the week?

I ordered a reel for an offshore trip on ebay. The guys lives in Missouri and I need it by Friday morning.

Also how long would it take to get to me? I live in Houston.

Just a side note to what has already been posted above. UPS has a service called "UPS Express Critical" that is available 24 hours 7 days a week. They offer next flight out service and it's substantially more expensive. It's more for emergency shipments like urgently needed medicine or a factory part that's holding up production.

I hope the seller ships your reel soon. Make sure to email them and let them know that you're needing it asap!

Good luck fishing! =)

What bait casting fishing reel to use (Round or Low Profile) for Inshore Pier Fishing.?

Hi,

I'm planing to buy a new Bait-casting reel but I'm not sure what to buy Round or Low Profile. I'm planing to use this for Inshore Pier fresh water fishing or maybe on a fishing boat for Salmon fishing too. I want something I can put my rod in a rod holder that is attached to the Piers or boat railings. I saw couple of Anglers in our area 'Pier' and they are using Rounded ones. If I'm going to get a Rounded ones can use this also for offshore fishing too? I just want to make my money's worth by buying just one good reel that can do both. What reel would recommend base on your choice above whether Round or Low Profile if you have a budget of $200. I heard a lot of good things for Low Profile reels but I'm not sure if it can handle Big Salmons.

Thanks

First, yes low profile reels can handle salmon just fine. It just matters if you have a better quality baitcaster. Lower end ones are going to flex under the tension from the pressure of the fish. Also, lower end reels tend to have lower quality drags that aren't going to hold up.

For pier fishing, it's almost always going to be more beneficial to have a round baitcaster as opposed to a low profile. The reason for this is because rounds tend to have more line capacity and bait clickers. Bait clickers (line alarms) are nice to have when pier fishing because it will let you focus attention on other things while fishing as opposed to having to literally constantly watch your rod. I've know people who have lost rods over the side of a pier because they got a take down from a large fish. It's not pretty...it downright sucks! For salmon fishing from a boat, a round is generally preferred as well. The thing with boat fishing for salmon, especially in the ocean, is going to be the necessity for line capacity. In a river, there's not too far a salmon can run, but oceans are a little different.

The abu garcia ambassadeur series are good all around reels at a very affordable price. Most of their reels in the 5000 and 6000 series have bait clickers and they will hold enough line for most applications..

If you're looking for a low profile reel in the sub $200 range, then I would take a look at the Shimano Curado 300. They are a higher capacity low profile reel that has enough performance qualities that will handle just about whatever you can toss at it. They retailed for 249, but are on sale for 199 at most places. I wouldn't recommend getting the Curado E (the newly released green curado). They aren't proven and are rumored to not be as good as the curado D (grey in color), Other than that, there's the Abu Garcia Revo INSHORE, a higher capacity higher end reel. It has good reviews.

Good luck....

Are there any offshore or US firms that are capable of converting 16mm microfiche to searchable PDF docs?

The 16mm microfiche is on VHS type reels. There are approx. 500 records on each reel. These need to be converted to searchable PDF docs and put onto DVD's.

There are a few that I have found. I have listed a few company links below. Hope this is what you were looking for.

Hope they work for you. Enjoy!
