What brand of spinning reel is the best for bass fishing in Kentucky?

I live in Kentucky and can catch bass anywhere from 2lbs-10lbs. I like to fish with buzz, spinner baits and plastic worms. I want a nice spinning reel that can hold a significant amount of line with 10lb test. I am not wanting to pay a boatload of money. Shoot me some suggestions! Thanks!

A couple of other posts have suggested a Pfleuger reel, and I agree 100%! The Pfleuger President is by far my best spinning reel, and you would not be disappointed with it.

What is the difference between spinning reel and bait casting?

I am new to fishing.
I have a spinning reel, but can I use this for general fishing off a pier?

A Little and a lot. In a little; they both hold line, retieve line {hopefully with a fish on the end occasionally} and they both set at the end of a rod. In a lot;, the spinning real is easier to cast then the baitcaster. They are set up different. The baitcaster's line is put back on the spool of the reel horizontally, the spinning real it is vertical to you. The spinning reel can use lighter lines and smaller lures. The baitcaster uses heavier tackle but can haul in larger fish as it "wenches" on retieve. The baitcaster is usually heavier and not available in as many sizes.
In my opinion if you have this question then a spinning outfit is best for you. I use one most the time and think they are generaly the best. More pros are now using them as they have improved over the years.
I don't know what your fishing for or your location, but I hope my opinions and information help

What saltwater spinning reel holds the most line?

I need a saltwater spinning reel that can hold alot of line. Would be for shark fishing.

Normal spinning reels:

Okuma Coronado CD-90. As the name says, it's a size 90 reel and it will hold a lot of line.

Daiwa DF100A Giant. It's a size 100 reel but the spool is smaller than Okuma's.

Special spinning reels:

Fin-Nor Offshore OFS-95. This reel was designed especially for braid lines. It will hold 600 yards of 100lb test braid line.

Van Staal VS300. It's not the biggest reel but it was especially designed to do what other spinning reels couldn't do and it could handle fish other spinning reels couldn't handle (at the time it was introduced at least). It was built with steel and titanium. I wouldn't be surprised if the reel is bullet proof.

You'll probably need a custom rod built for these specialty spinning reels. I don't think you'll be able to find a spinning rod that could handle very heavy lines. Daiwa Beefstick got a spinning model that could handle up to 40lb test line. But it is a very heavy in weight. Fin-Nor built a spinning rod that could handle 50lb test lines and it will cost over $200.

By the way, I think a conventional reel will work better. Reels selection will be better. Suitable rods that could handle heavier lines are much easier to find too.

How does one thread the line of a spinning reel through the eyelets of a fishing pole?

The spinning reel came already set up; now I must get the line to go through the spinning thing on the bale so it works properly. I cannot figure this out, and it didn't come with instructions. How do I properly thread the line through the mechanism? Can anyone tell me in simple instructions or provide a link with pictures? This was a fathers day gift I'd like to get working! Thank you!

Open the bail on the reel and leave it open. Pull the line up and thread it through the guides of the rod starting at the bottom. Once the line goes through the tip top guide, pull out some extra line and close the bail.

What is a good flats fishing spinning reel?

Looking for a nice spinning reel to use in the flats. I will be targeting redfish and spotted sea trout.

Don't want to spend more than $140. Preferable a little bit less.

Any recommendations of good reels that can take salt-water abuse every weekend?

Here's my picks:

#1. Shimano "Symetre" ($79.99)
#2. Daiwa "Black Gold" ($79.99)
#3. Daiwa "Whisker SS Tournament" ($89.99)
#4. Quantum "Boca" ($129)
#5. Quantum "Cabo" ($189)
#6. Shimano "Stella" ($499)

Out of these, (which are all excellent reels), I would "zero-in" on the Shimano, "Symetre", Daiwa "Whisker SS" & both Quantum series.

The Boca is currently on sale at Cabelas.com

For durability the Black Gold is #1 but weighs more & doesn't have all the "bells & whistles" the Shimano Symetre/Daiwa SS has.

The Boca at $129 might be your best bet in your price range.

Although MORE than $140 the Q Cabo is an excellent reel and has been compared to the Shimano "Stella" at less than half the price!

Go to Basspro.com & cabelas.com for reviews of reels.

Hope this helps ya? Good luck!

UPDATE: Although RW has a point about "washing off your reels" it's usually the "internal" prts of a "saltwater reel" (& perhaps the Bail/Bail mech/"Sealed system") that designate it "saltwater" approved. You CAN use ANY freshwater reel in a saltwater environment, (and if you take extra care), it will work fine for years!

However, if you don't keep a freshwater combo "greased & washed off" it will only take 4 trips before you will notice corrosion, ball-bearing failure, & general "salt-ware". At least with a "saltwater designated reel" if you decide to "blow off" washing them down once in a while you've got a "chance" they won't be "froze" on ya the next day!

"Dunk" a freshwater reel and a saltwater designated reel in the ocean/flats, SEE which one "makes it" EVEN AFTER a wash down! (lol)

What is the best spinning reel for largemouth bass?

I catch alot of bass from the 1-5 pound range . What would be the best spinning reel for me?

hey man. i will give you two great great reels that i use on a regular and they are not expensive and have never failed me. i love the abu garcia cardinal series. that one ran me about 35-40 dollars. great great reel. i have it setting on a 6' medium action shakespear ugly stick and the other bass reel that i use is the phlugher. great one as well. i think i payed about 60 dollars for that one. i have that one sittin on an ugly stick as well. i know that both prices may seem high to some but for high quality reel the prices are not too bad. i have pulled up 20-lbs catfish with both 8-12 lb bass with both. i have even drug up a 3 foot sand shark with the abu. if you are wanting a good reel that will last you for a good long while and not give you any problems without dropping the bank there you go. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
