I have used sardines and corn,both have worked well,but i would like to know if there is a better bait for racoons in live traps.Thanks.

The trick when trapping any animal is to do your homework first, and thats to watch and find out what they like best, there activitys, there curiosity, and things unexpected.

With the warm weather finally here, there are small red ants coming in through my kitchen windows (I have yetto check the other windows)..without using a poison (I have kids and pets) how do I get rid of them ? We been here a few years now and this is the first time this has happened. The only change is I now have Aloe plants on the window sill, is that what is attracting them ?

You could try Diatomaceous earth. It kills the ants by drying them out, not by poison, so its relatively harmless to pets a children. Here is some info:

Ever since the council started on emptying our bins every other week, it's attracted mice and rats, especially when the normal household waste bin is full. I'm putting down traps around where I've seen them- what do I bait them with?
Yeah, I work in a pet shop, and I know rats poo everywhere! Don't fret, domestic ones are fine, but I can see how wild ones would be worse.

Live traps only. Looking for the best baits to use or any tips on catching the destructive s.o.b.s.

Parsnips, anise oil, apples are all good, particularly the parsnips. Also try commercial muskrat lure sold to trappers. There is no reason lure used with leg hold traps would not be equally effective with live traps. Set the traps at the edge of the water near the trails and burrows.

we have a slight mouse problem we have caught what looks like two adults but now have smaller mice now looks like the kiddies are taking over but are not seeming to be smart enough for the traps. I need to know what tasty bait to put in the trap we don't have any peanut butter.

Chunky PB is best. Be sure and stick a chunk of peanut in the little hole. It will have to work to get it out.

Knowing where the nest is and how they gained access to the house should be one part of your research.

With no offense meant at all I'm always bothered by what so many assume in the strict definition of BAIT. Most often poisoned food substances. Any food residue is most attractive to insect type critters; even when invisible to us. AND might continue to attract even new hatchlings.

I never tried this on ants; but since they have an exoskeleton; as Roaches do; and Boric Acid powder is most effective on Roaches; though not strictly a "poison" to them; you might try it. It is toxic to Human and animals mammals however. It's readily available in hardware stores Lowes; HD; some garden shops; and is relatively inexpensive as well as being easy to dispense in soft plastic bottles with nozzles.
