Im looking for a depth finder and fish finder that will mount to the inside of the hull of my metal boat. Do they make one that will be able to go threw the metal of the boat?
Whether the hull is wood, fiberglass or metal, you still have to cut a hole in the hull to place the transducer into it. So the answer to your question is that any combination depth / fish finder can be fitted to the boat. You just have to seal the hole well when your finished. The other option is to make a temporary installation using a PVC pipe and clamps to mount the transducer off the transom.
My depth finder gives false data when I'm moving through the water even at slow speeds. I was informed that putting it on the other side of the motor may help, is this true?
It can be mounted on either side but keep it out and away from the motor a bit. the turbulance of the water causes air bubbles and the signal can't shoot through air. also mount it so it is extended below the boat about 1/8 of a inch. if you mount it to high and get on plane it may be out of the water. hopes this helps.
Adding a gps/depth to boat. The boat has a fishfinder on it already. Will the two transducers interfere with each other?
i added a Garmin unit that has a fishfinder which works better than the old fishfinder. the transducers will not interfer if you mount them several feet apart.
Question 1- Is a fish finder and a depth finder the same thing? I would like to get my husband a marine GPS with a depth finder (he does not fish).
Question 2- Do all marine GSP systems have a depth finder?
Question 3- What would your recommendation be for inland/freshwater navigation?
Thank you so much!
Many GPS receivers can relay position data to a PC or other device using the NMEA 0183 protocol, or the newer and less widely used NMEA 2000. Although these protocols are officially defined by the NMEA, references to the these protocols have been compiled from public records, allowing open source tools like gpsd to read the protocol without violating intellectual property laws.
Other proprietary protocols exist as well, such as the SiRF and MTK protocols. Receivers can interface with other devices using methods including a serial connection, USB or Bluetooth. GPS receivers come in a variety of formats, from devices integrated into cars, phones, and watches, to dedicated devices such as those shown here from manufacturers Trimble, Garmin and Leica.

I am looking for something more flexible than copper, something like a gooseneck lamp, but I don't want to buy a lamp.
not sure exactly what you need but the following link is a company that supplies fibre glass flexible rods that screw together and also supplies conduit tape, a flexible tape that can be pushed through tubing, round bends etc.

My Dad would like one for Christmas so I would like to get him one. He isn't a bass fisherman, he only fishes for leisure. Nothing fancy, just something basic.
I use a Hummingbird 525 depth finder for two reasons. It's easy to learn to operate and view and it costs less than 150.00. I use mine basically to follow the bottom contour of the lake/river and in the Fish ID mode it will beep when a fish passes under my boat.
