is it possible to keep a clown fish and a sea anemone in a 10 gallon tank if not what size tank should i have?

i am planing on converting a fresh water tank to salt water tank and i want to get a clown fish because they dont get big only 3 and a half inches acording to a book, and since they dont get big i want to keep it in a 10 gallon.i already have all of the equiptment like heaters and salinity measuring devices and morethan enough filters.

The clown would be fine,I have heard that anemone are difficult to keep.Have you ever heard of Nano reef tanks? There are web sites for them you might want to check out.
There is a LFS where I live that has a 5 gallon reef tank. They are so cool.

I would get a protein skimmer if you try saltwater.

I've dropped a pumice stone in the toilet - it's no longer visible- fixable without plumber?

It measures about 2.5 inches L x 2.0 wide; about 1/4 inch thick. don't know how big the pipes are... (but - former council estate in London; modernist style overall; dated around the 70s)

is there a fishing device that can be used?

This answer is not supposed to be funny..... pummice stone is light it has 'floated' away... so dont worry.

In the movie "The Perfect Storm" why did the captain say "put the bird in the water"?

I think the "bird" is device for measuring water temperature and is used to locate fish, but I don't understand why they put it in the water when they were heading back to port.

No, a "bird" is an anti-roll device. It is actually the piece of equipment on a boom that came loose and that they had to cut out with a welding torch in the movie. You certainly remember that episode.

It is not an EPIRB as the previous poster writes. An EPIRB is released automatically only when the vessel is under water. It sends a signal to the COSPAR-SARSAT satellite system and it doesn't include a GPS position but a much more rough positionning.

To send a GPS position automatically to the coast guards or any other maritime rescue center, one needs a GMDSS station that coordinates all communications; emergengy included. Two buttons pressed down for a few seconds is all that is required to send a distress signal

Help! I've been given a set of materials and I am to design a physics lab from them.?

The materials are:
5 pieces of small lead
a ruler
3 index cards
fishing line
string
I.D. clip
clay
four Popsicle sticks
5 paper clips
2 feathers
a gram measuring device

I don't have to use all of the materials, and I'm not allowed to use anything else except a stopwatch and tape.

I've been thinking on how to carry out an experiment with these materials for a few days now, and I can't think of anything!

If you have any ideas, please tell me! Thank you!

Betta + Filter ???? Need serious Help?

I have my small Betta in a heated 2 gallon tank with a thermometer and gravel, castle, tree, and cave and it came with an air pump attached so I use it.

I am out of the house sometimes 10 hours a day and I come home to find his fin rot worse
I use Jungle but no matter what I do, his water is always getting worse
The pet store told me yesterday to forget buying a gravel cleaner and PH/ammonia measure device/strips
and to just change his water 100% every 7 days and use Water Conditioner

But...I don't want to stress him...
and my method of 25% water changes and treating him with Jungle isn't working.

So....I have a new 1-3 Gallon Whisper Filter and was wondering if I should add it? It has options to use the mechanical (catch debris and waste while using air pump) and there's the Chemical option (carbon and odor removal)

I was thinking I move him to an 80degree fish bowl with a lid for 3 hours
then I change his tank 100%
put Whisper Filter
then add him back in after 3 hours or so.
Good idea or not?

Yes, large water changes will help in the short term, and using a small filter will help longer term.

Once the filter cycles (grows some bacteria) it will process the waste ammonia thats poisoning your betta at the moment. Do large partial water changes (50%) for the next few weeks to contol the ammonia untill your filter cycles.

Just use the mechanical media, it will work to catch floating debris and give the cycle bacteria a place to live. (Biological filtering)

The carbon pads are normally not needed, and have to be replaced every month or so anyway. So just get a mechanical media and rinse it out when you do water changes.

Have a read of the link below, it explains how the nitrogen cycle works and why you need a filter.

Ian

Edit - of course the tank will start cycling, that's what you want. If the tank has no cycle, like now, then adding a filter wont make things any worse. The process of cycling a tank is no worse than having no cycle at all. The uncycled filter wont make things any worse than than they already are.

What do you think of this joke? read on! You want regret it if you read it, trust me. what do you think??

Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife.

This was submitted by a guy who purchased his lovely wife a "pocket Taser" for their anniversary.

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 22nd anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Toni. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were suppose to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....
WAY TOO COOL!

Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two triple-a batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. Awesome!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Toni what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-a batteries,... right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-a batteries) thinking to myself, "no possible way!"

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.......

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, "don't do it master," reasoning that a one-second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.... I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for the heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and HOLY MOTHER, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs. The cat was standing over me making meowing sounds I had never heard before, licking my face, undoubtedly thinking to herself, "do it again, do it again!"

Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself. You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered conservative.

SON-OF-A-.... that hurt like hell!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they up get there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I'm still looking for my testicles? I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return.

LOL!! That was one of the funniest stories I've heard in a long time. I like best the part where the guy burst out into saying HOLY MOTHER, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!! LOL!!
