How to record using an inbuilt microphone and the program, Sonar 7 (laptop computer)?

Does anyone know what settings i need to change or whatever i need to do so that i can record vocals/sounds through the inbuilt microphone on my laptop? (onto the program, Sonar 7)

I'm aware of all the midi equipment i need in order to connect and record instruments to my computer but am not keen on buying a microphone when theres already one in my laptop.

Thanks in advance! :)

Well, I think you just need to turn on the microphone using your audio utility in control panel (Like Realtek), increase its volume (from Realtek again) & enable microphone boost (if you have such an option there) and then it would work fine with any app.

Can Sonar LE songs be opened and edited by the latest professional/producer versions of Sonar?

I got a free copy of Sonar LE, when I bought a Samson CO1U microphone. I want to send my songs to a professional studio which uses Sonar, so if I record songs using Sonar LE can they be opened with the latest professional/producer versions of Sonar?

I bet they can. It would be pretty stupid if it didn't. My new ProTools takes really old ProTools files, and Reason takes old files as well. I think that is a function that they build into all music software, otherwise nobody would want to update.

What tool do scientists use to determine the effects of SONAR on whales?

My marine biology class watched a national geographic video on whaling. It was shown that SONAR could kill whales, causing tumors in the brain and other things of that nature. I missed the second day of watching the video where it said the methods used to determine the effects. I know they performed autopsies, however I do not know what tool they used. Anyone know?

Necropsy (animal autopsy) is the only way to examine the auditory and nervous systems of a whale. Naturally, one must die and get washed ashore before that's possible. They use the same tools they use on other animals and humans, but the saws are larger.
In the last few months, we have had 3 dead whales wash up on the beaches here in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Two were killed by being run over by ships/boats traversing the Santa Barbara Channel, and one died from natural causes (they think). They included a juvenile blue whale, a small sperm whale, and a grey whale.

How do i get output for my midi on sonar home studio 6?

I just got Sonar home studio 6 and i cant get any sound out of it so i went to the trouble shoot and it said i probly dont have any output for my midi so i checked and sure enough i dont, how do i get output?

I'm assuming you have a soundcard. There are three ways I can think of to get sound based on midi data:

1) Soft synths (either dxi or vsti). Sonar home studio should come with some. (sorry , I use a different version of sonar).

2) external hardware. if you have a midi interface connected to your computer, sonar can trigger it .

3) a synth built into your soundcard.

Since I know nothing about your soundcard (I'm assuming you have one) or any external interfaces, let's try option 1.

Although i am using a different version of Sonar, they tend to be very much the same in some areas, so what i say should work with perhaps some minor variations.

First, you must make sure Sonar is outputting to your soundcard. Are you able to hear anything when you play regular audio tracks? If not go to "Tools" and "audio" and make sure sonar is actually setup to put out sound.

Next step is to test midi. IF I am not mistaken, if you go to help, it has tutorials that will direct you to midi files that are installed. You can either open up the tutorial project or simply do the following.

If there is not already a midi track in your project, go to "Insert" and then "midi track".

then go to "insert" and soft synth" *note...there are LOTS of ways to do this and you will eventually find a way that works best for you*
an insert options page should pop up. make sure at the very least you have some form of output selected. the simplest option is "first synth audio output"

go to your midi track and make sure the output of that track is your synth.. if you are unsure of how to do this, let me know.

next , you need midi data to play. if you have a midi file, you can import it to that track by right clicking in track and selcting "import midi". otherwise, right click in track, selct "view" and "piano roll". if you click on the piano keys, you should hear sound. if not, let me know
