I have trotlines out for catfish. Right now I want to use minnows but seeing as how it runs a small fortune to bait all the hooks i've chosen to use doughballs since they are cheaper. I have already caught cat's on them but they seem to fall off the hook quickly. Any quick fixes? its store bought magic bait doughballs.
I have always had good luck just buying a loaf of wonder bread and smashing the balls around the hook and they seem to stay on pretty well.
we just bought a house on the tchefuncta river in mandeville and i was wondering what i would be catching... i have already caught a few cat and a couple bass
A lot will depend on what you bait with but there are bass, catfish, gar, chain pickerel ( known as jackfish locally) crappie, bream, goo, spotted bass, sand bass, bowfin, and most likely some I forgot. But the main fish caught on trotlines will be catfish.
i know their a mess to deal with but how can i catch one on my trotline like what baits and stuff?
Gars are hard to catch they like minnows and flies but It'll be hard to catch on a troutline. Mostly caught on spoons or minnows. A lot of people bowfish for them or snag.
Hi, I need help on how to set up a trot line. There is a small river that runs off the Mississippi river then back in to Mississippi. I want to run the trot line across the small river. I need a simple set up for a trot line. I want it to hold up to 20+ pound catfish. I want it to be easy and pretty cheap. THANK YOU
hey man, the ol trout line. i love to do that as well. for the cheapest way is either buy a pre assembled trout line. they are not that expensive. if you dont want to do that i would recommend just a role of good twine. twine is sold just like fishin line. they are rated at lbs that they can wistand. get a good 60 lb test twine. i would recomend getting one that is neon green. you can see it better. and off of that twine get you some good briaded line about a 20 lb test and run you different lengths off of the twine, all depending on the depth of the river. i would suggest using trebble hooks on your runner lines. if the river isnt too wide i would run it all the way across. find some over hanging trees and tie it off to a limb. use a different selction of baits. liver, bait fish, stink bait, what ever you want. give the ol kitty kitty different selection. i would also suggest getting a tent and building a fire and make a night of it. if you do that. get the same roll of twine and run another length of line a few feet on one or the other side of your trout line. that way you can get your boat and pull your way next to the trout line. you will not have to paddle. man i hope that helps you out a little good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
i made a trotline, but i was wondering how do you put the minno on the hook, through the mouth, or the tail,or the spine. Im setting the trotline for catfish
About 2\3rds of the way back toward the tail and try to miss the spine. This will keep the shiner alive and swimming.
I am putitng out a trotline for the first timetomorrow night do i need weights for the drop lines?
