How do I use a spinning rod?

Spinning/Spincasting rod. Whena nd what position do I place the bail in? When do I place my finger on the line in the process?

A large number of special lures have been developed for spinning. They resemble bait-casting lures such as plugs, spinners, and spoons, but they are smaller and lighter. A hollow plastic bubble filled with a desired amount of water for weight may be used with spinning tackle. It is affixed to the line 2 to 3 feet ahead of the lure and enables the spin-fisherman to cast the lightest and tiniest artificial flies.

Spin casting differs from bait casting in the manipulation of the reel and line. To cast, the line is picked up by the tip of the index finger of the hand holding the rod. The bail, or pick-up finger, on the reel is put in casting position, so that the line is free to run off the spool without interference. When the line hits the water the fisherman begins to reel in (retrieve) his line. As soon as the retrieve is started, the bail automatically snaps into pick-up position to wind the line on the spool. Spinning reels, like surfcasting reels, permit a fish to run with the line while the angler is reeling in.

One advantage of spinning over bait casting is that the rod is held in position with the guides downward and the reel underneath. Thus a fisherman does not have to change hands to reel in his line, as the reel handle is in proper position. Spinning reels are available for both right- and left-handed casters

What Rod/Reel, Line combo should I use?

I received a large gift card to "bassproshop" and I am looking to buy a whole new fishing rig. In the past I had used a very simple spincasting rod for a long time and though I fish a good deal I could use some help in selecting a rod. Something versatile would be excellent, that I could use for bass, trout, catfish, and possibly pike while being able to swap between live bait, lures, etc. I have 170 dollars on the card. Please help.

So you want to upgrade from a Spincaster to a Spinning outfit?

And you have $170 to play with?

Here's my picks:

1. Pflueger "Supreme" Model 8035- ($99)- Fantastic reel with excellent feedback. The ONLY magnesium reel you can purchase at this price! (Magnesium reels are very lite-weight and durable.) I own the Supreme and find it rivals my more expensive Shimano reels. A STEAL at $99!

Match your Pflueger Supreme reel with a 7' Ugly Stik Lite model SP1170-2M ($39)

The Lite Series has a nice cork handle AND the same durability of the original Ugly Stik's. Ugly Stiks can also handle the rigors of catching anything from a large Catfish to a small Trout.

The problem?

You want an outfit to catch Trout, Bass, Catfish, and Bass with live bait/lures Etc!

Generally, you would need various outfits to achieve this goal.

For example:

A Bass outfit will be too heavy for Trout. A large Catfish outfit will be too heavy for Bass. (and so forth!)

Ugly Stiks are great rods but you will have to compromise in some regard with "sensitivity".

With that knowledge in mind I still believe an Ugly Stik is the way to go.

Line- Power Pro or Berkley Fireline 4/10

Go check the reviews for Ugly Stik Lite and Plfueger Supreme at http://www.basspro.com

Hope this helps? Good fishing!

Which spincasting Fishing rod should I get?

i'm a begginer and I want something worth while to freah water fish, so here are some of my options,

1.http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8144063
2.http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8144054
3.http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_95709_100003000_100000000_100003000_100-3-0

any suggestions?

The first one (Zebco 202) is a load of trash. I caught a 3 lb. fish on the reel, (On a large rod) and stripped the gears all to hell. It's cheap for a reason. It's junk. Have you seen how much the reel alone costs? $7. Your best thing to do is stay all from the 202, but a lot of the other Zebco products are good.

The Zebco 11 is awesome! I would love to own one. It's a great crappie, bluegill, trout reel and it will last a long time. It's pretty cheap, too! All the Zebco reels that are "metal" looking on the outside are the good ones (Zebco 33, Zebco 733, and Zebco 11 all have the metal look).

The Stampede will be overall decent. I don't have faith in this combo for some reason. The 11 will be MUCH better than either the 202 or Stampede.

Happy fishing.

When you buy spincasting fishing rods at walmart, do they already come with fishing line installed?

I bought one of those cheap Shakespeare $20 underspin combos from K-Mart a year or so ago.

http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_9990000087043811P?keyword=shakespeare

It came armed with some cheap brand 4 pound line and a 4'6" ultra light spinning rod. I stripped the line off it, figuring it was old anyway, and put 4 pound Maxima on it instead. I put the reel on an 8'6" Eagle Claw fly rod for Float 'N' Fly rigging bass, crappie and other panfish.

I sold the rod at the swapmeet for $15.

Are there anything called a spincast rod?

i have only seen spinning rods, baitcasting ones. Does spincasting ones go with spinning rods or what?

Yup', there is such a' thing and a spincast reel is what is used. Puttin' a spinnin' reel on them wouldn't be advisable, reason bein' is that a' spincast rod like a baitcaster has the line guides/eyes and reel seat on the top, whereas with the spinnin' rig their on the bottom;)... < ' ( (( > <

Spinnin' reel = spinnin' rod
Spincast, Level-Wind/baitcastin' reel = spincast or baitcast rods...

Given' you a link that will show ya' their differences (scroll down page). Might want to go through site ~ gives a' lot of good info., regardin' fishin' as a' whole ie., species of fish, baits (live & artificial), rods, reels, lines, etc., etc. ;)...

What is a good rod and reel to get at wallmart for shark fishing?

Baitcasting or spincasting would be fine Got around hundred dollars

Bump your bucks a bit and you can get a 113h combo for $159 more or less and this will be good for most average shark fishing.
Bass pro,Walmart or your local tackle dealer would be your best option for service and the knowledge!
