Surf Fishing Rod

what size fishing rod for surf fishing in NJ?

i already have a 10 ft lamiglas with a penn 525 mag. i mostly only throw bait with it though. i am looking to get another one to have lure ready when a blitz comes by. i have a couple of questions though. what rod length should i get? should i get two more surf rods?

10ft is fine. If you try the 10.6' or the 11' it might effect your casting ability but the taller rods gives you more strength in fighting big bass or bluefish. If you're tossing lures, a light 10' like a lamiglas or a St. Croix premiere are fine. Blitzes are mostly in the fall, in the spring and summer you'll catch more bottom fishing with bunker chunks.

I "inherited" a surf rod for fishing from my grandfather, what do i do?

I got it when he passed away and it's about 8-10 feet long and the line is thicker than normal and my grandmother told me he used it for surf fishing, but i really don't know anything about and it in interested me, and i am going to the beach in a few days and I wanted to know if I could use it while there w/o having to use a boat

sorry for not having a picture
but here's what i can remember of it looking like
It's open reel
about 8-10 feet long
the handle/hilt of it is about 1-1.5 feet long

I really don't know what to do with it, let alone how to surf fish

if anyone can help or knows of a good site that cna give me hints/tips or any kind of help, I would be grateful
it's a almsot new one, not one of the old kind

pretty pristeen(sp)[good] condition

To catch fish on the surf use mackerel, bunker (menhaden) or herring. Cut it into two inch pieces and put the chunk on the hook. Also use at least a 4-oz pyramid sinker and a 8/0 hook.

What is the best surf fishing rod(spinning) to buy.?

I have a tight budget so under $150

ugly stiks are NOT good surf rods. They are bulk pieces of crap. If you think just because you can "step on it, and it doesn't break" makes it a good rod, then you're an idiot.

Look, a good surf rod will have a decent set of guides, a nice power curve, and depending on what types of species you're going after (sharks, perch, striper, etc....) will need to behave differently.

If you're looking for a good, overall surf rod - then you shouldn't be getting an ugly stik or anything even remotely like it. None of the generic, store brand rods. You don't want something that's ridiculously heavy and annoying to hold. You want something light, responsive, and easy to handle.

In your price range, I would be looking at rods like these - http://www.fishusa.com/Lamiglas-Surf-King-Series-Surf-Rods_p.html

Honestly, take a little time and do some research on the internet. JUST DON'T get stuck buying a rods that's "cheaper"/less expensive just cause someone else says so.

What is the best surf fishing rod that is not that expensive.?

I bought a neat ten foot Shakespeare at Walmart. It's not the "top of the line" but it's a nice pole, well made, and I have gotten a couple years out of it. I paid less than $30.00 US.

What is the best surf fishing spinning rod/ reel combo under $130?

Sturdy and dependable reel and 10' + rod.

woah dont spend that much money. i have 6 or 7 surf rods that i use for different applications some for sharks other for smaller fish and some for catfish and not the fist one was no more than 50 dollars. i got my rod and reels from the local walley world. they are sold as a combo. and i have a couple that i got from bass pro. the ones that i have from walmart is shakespear brand and the ones from bass pro are Diawa. all are great rod and reel combos. they all come spooled with 20 lb mono line but i dont like that line for surf or cats so i strip that off and spool up some braided spiderwire. all depending on the size of size of fish you are after depends on the size of line. for surf fishing i would recomend atleat a 50 lb line. for the reason that you dont really know exactly what you will hook up to. i have been after whitting before and caught nothing but sharks and stingrays. glad i had that line on there. i have 40 lb 50 lb and 60 lb line on my reels. there is a little saying that i go buy when it comes to bying fishin gear and pretty much anything that money is spent on

"Quality doesnt always come with a big price tag, and Big price tags dont always mean quality"

you dont have to spend a pile of money for quality. just remember that even though the reels are made for saltwater, it is always good to take your reel to the water hose and spray it down for a few seconds and then take a can of wd40 and spray it down. the wd 40 helps get out any salt left. i hope this helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience

what is a good surf rod/reel for surf fishing sharks?

what is a good surf rod/reel for surf fishing sharks
