Bomber Lures

how can i tell how far my fishing lures will dive?

I got some bomber-like lures at an auction the other day and i am trying to figure out how deep they will dive at 1 mph for trolling walleye. They have large bills on them so i assume they will dive deep. Is there any type of equation (example: 1/2 inch of bill for 10 feet of depth) to help me figure this out. I live on lake erie and lure depth can be critical! THANX!

Large bills will dive deeper, but wobble harder too.
I use a Rapala and put a slip sinker very Small on the top bill through the line. It doesn't interfere with your action and you get more depth.

I have also drilled a 1/4 in che hole just adjacent behind the bill underneath the Rapala about 1/4 inch deep. Then melted some lead and poured it in there. That works real good.

I need some need brands of lures to use for largemouth?

I fish on a private lake that is 88 acres in southern michigan and has little boat traffic. The max motor size is 25 hp. The bass are very picky here. The are a ton of lily pads and hydrilla and grass.

I want to try out different brands of lures and want to see how they work. Any suggestions on what to use?

these are what i use already:
yum dinger
yum tubes
yamasenko
powerbait power worm
rapalas
strike king spinnerbaits and buzzbaits
booyah buzz and spinnerbaits
Gulp! stuff
yum! sweet cheeks swim baits
wild eye swim baits
captian mick swim baits
all bomber lures
yum crawdads
rooster tails

You have quite a selection there! I love fishing & Bass is my favorite because they are a challenge. Try using Mann's jelly worms, they've worked well for me. Good luck & happy fishing!

How would you use the following lures?

A spinning lure (company like mepps, follow link)

and this propeller lure (this is sorta like the lure I have but the propellers are more rounded and there is one propeller at the end and one at the tip/begining and it was longer)

and now just combine them! use the details above!
Just so you know sd waterman, I bought a lot of lures and I always use live bait! I kinda wanna get my moneys worth of my lures!

Since the lures you have listed are mainly what you would find in any bass fishermans tackle box (especially the soft plastic baits and jigs) and the crankbaits and spinners are common to any walleye or pike fisher, I would invest some time looking over all available online sources for fishing these species. Your local public library should have DVD's and many books on catching these freshwater gamefish.
A site I use and find very accurate on what lure to use under any given circumstance is this one.http://www.in-fisherman.com/ Just click on the links for each fish and enjoy the professionals point of view on lure usage.
I hope that you find the information useful to you, in addition to the posting BASS Fisherman posted above.

Best of luck.

Bomber Square A Lure replacement hooks?

Will it hurt to put larger replacement hooks on a bomber square A lure?
I hate the hooks that come with it but love the lure.
Im making and order and just want to make sure the lure will run right if i put larger hooks on it... Anyone know?

stay with the same size hook. most are tuned to run best with the size supplied by the manufacturer (quality name brands). cheap copies do need a larger hook at times(they save money with smaller ones). if you're losing fish, try a mustad triple grip in its place. they hold very well. some lure manufacturers use them as original equipment. remember to practice catch and release (keep a few-let the giants go for their gene pool).

I need a good Surf Rod for throwing lures only..?

I live in New Jersey, and I am looking to buy a good surf rod for throwing light lures like Bombers and heavy ones like AVA 17s. What size should I get, and with what specifications? What about the action? Should I get a graphite rod? My price range is around $40-$60. Any suggestions or recommendations would be great. Thanks

There aren't any good surf rods in that range. You'd have to pay about 100 in order to get into something good.

Daiwa makes a "usable" inexpensive surf rod. The Beefstick. Nice name, huh? It's barely OK. The guides are ceramic, and really crappy. It's heavy, clunky, and doesn't cast very well. It's cheap - and that's what you're asking for. The Sealine is a little better, but not by much.
Penn makes a budget surf rod and a mid-range one too - the cheaper one is a small step up from the Daiwa's - better build, same crappy guides, but it's definitely put together a LOT better than the others. The more pricey one is decent. It's more than I would have expected from an 80 rod.
Shakespeare Ugly Stik (surf version) - again....just "EHH." It's only 65, so it's not going to break the bank. The guides are a LITTLE better than the other cheaper options I've listed, but it's a STIFF rod, and it's not going to produce great casting with those lures because of that.

HOWEVER - if you start looking on eBay you can come up with some good deals on quality surf rods. for example - http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-10-Lamiglas-surf-fishing-rod-1202MH-NEW-NR_W0QQitemZ170292277363QQihZ007QQcategoryZ36168QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Decent rod, good price. It's going to make the Daiwa's and Penn look and feel like pieces of crap.

The only way you're going to end up with a QUALITY rod is if you look at Lamiglas (probably the best for the money), St. Croix, Loomis, Tica, higher end Daiwas, Quantums. Shimano only makes an expensive version - Tiralejo - that's not worth the price.

To get you started in the right direction....here's a pretty decent QUANTUM on sale: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=null-cat601986&id=0064598124003a&navCount=0&podId=0064598&parentId=cat601986&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=surf%20rod&cm_ite=netcon&rid=0180101070502

saltwater fishing lures?

First Im using a long bomber lure right now and was wondering if any one knows the best way to use them? I reel in slow and give a jerk every so often. Second whats the best lures for onshore fishing (piers, seawalls, ect...)?

The lure you have is a good one and really all you need to do is very the retrieve in speed, jerky motions, pauses, make the lure work near cover all sorts of things/

Also good lures for piers are as said hair or feather jigs but I like to use gulp shrimp on a jig and bounce it off the bottom so dont forget the soft plastic baits too.Use anything you would like from just a seawall!
