i just bought some at a retail store and was going to try salmon fishing for the first time tomorrow. i have never used the eggs. its a jar by gulp there is sacks already intact. i was trying to find out if there is a special way your supposed to hook them.
actually i was wrong the brand is actually Atlas.

Atlas "Natural" Spawn Sacs

here is a link with pics to guide you through the tying of a knot that will hold your bait.

there are several different ones but this one is the easiest to tie.
there is actually a video that shows you how.

how can i get my salmon eggs to stay on the hook?

they just dont stay on

first of all, you arent weird. dont listen to that other girl.
second of all, glue them.

I live in Massachsuettts. There is a large school of Salmon swimming around a river where I live.

I have tried catching them with many suggestions that I got on this site, to wit: anchovies and red lures, but nothing whatsoever works. It was also recommened that I try Salmon egg sacks (but they are not sold around this area). No matter what I dangle in front of them, the school swims right by it, completely ignoring it---and it's a big school. It's getting really frustrating. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to get these Salmon hooked? If anyone can come up with a way to catch these things, please let me know----before the school---and a potential diinner----swims away for good. As an aside, I'm not interested in foul hooking them---would be too easy.

i was just in mass. and i was catching them left and right. you should try a fly fishing technique or a colorful top water lure. i also threw corn in the river which was really effective, it got them excited and then i put some corn on my line and i had about 6 salmon chasing my hook and they almost jumped right onto land, infact one of them did! and if even this doesnt work just fish them as if you were fishing trout.

What types of hooks and hook sizes are effective on trout?

I am using grasshoppers, dough bait, and salmon eggs

You require three different hooks. I would suggest Eagle Claw hooks because they have never done me wrong. For grass hoppers of any size I would suggest # 8 size hooks. For dough baits I would suggest a small to medium treble hook. For Salmon eggs I would advise using small red Salmon egg hook (#10 I think but any smaller size). As far as finding the aforementioned hooks go to Walmart. They should be there in there out door section.

what color fishing line?

my friend and i have been fishing clear creek (small stream used for Coors brewery in golden co) and we caught 200+ cutbows (rainbow crossed with cutthroat). We use salmon eggs on a salmon egg hook. I am making some gear changes for next season and am wondering if a different color line (other than clear) would work to our advantage. keep in mind the fish are no longer than nine inches.

Why can some people catch Salmon and other's cant with the same bait?

I was fishing the Lewis River in Washington the past 3 days and watched the same people drag Salmon after Salmon out of the water using salmon eggs (roe). I used the exact same setup, even the same brand of fishing line, hooks, and weights. I casted into the same spot, and after 10 hours and 32oz of eggs later, still NOTHING!!!. the only difference is that they cure their own eggs. Is that it, do store bought eggs NOT WORK? What are they curing their eggs with? It has to be something illegal. What is it?

One guy was there for less than 10 minutes and caught 2 SALMON!!! I was there for 10 hours and only caught a snag.

I've been fishing for 20 years and not an amateur. But I have never been able to catch a salmon on store bought eggs.
There really isn't a technique, it's float fishing (bobber) Just cast and let it float the river, when the float goes down, set hook, reel in.
IF YOU CURE EGGS AND THEY WORK, WHAT'S YOUR RECIPE!
I had my depth at 12' like the others, so I know it wasn't depth. The only thing I can think of is the eggs they were using. Could it be my scent? Maybe I stink to the fish, and the other guy was wearing cologne? :)

I know that they don't eat when in spawn mode. I don't know if I pissed the salmon off, but I'm pissed off.

rather your technique is off or that their cured eggs is whats doing the trick. ask for a little bit of their bait im sure they wouldn't mind. if you aint catching any then your technique is off.

HEROES

The house had been vacuumed, dusted, scrubbed and polished like never before, at least not in Nick’s memory. Normally his mother put very little energy into housekeeping, but his week Lucille Shane was on a mission.

Nick tried to keep a low profile and not be drawn into his mother’s wake, but there was no place to hide. He had been assigned specific duties in his room, plus scrubbing and polishing chores elsewhere. He was beginning to hate the smell of Old Dutch Cleanser and Johnson’s Furniture Polish.

All of this activity stemmed from the fact that his Uncle John was coming to visit. His father’s younger brother had never been to their home in the Northern California town of Vallejo. In fact, the brothers hadn’t seen or spoken to one another in nearly a decade. Recently there had been an exchange of letters, then a tentative phone call. And now Uncle John would be coming to call for Sunday dinner.

John Shane had followed his older brother into the Navy and had decided to make a career of it. In 1949, with the Great War over, the Navy wasn’t a bad place to be. Now his ship was in port in San Francisco undergoing repairs. It was the perfect opportunity for the brothers to put their differences behind them.

Nick’s mother was determined that everything would be perfect. The house would be in order and she would prepare a Sunday feast that John would never forget. She shopped at the commissary on Mare Island Naval Shipyard and purchased a nice lean sirloin tip roast. She would serve the roast with oven-roasted potatoes and vegetables picked fresh from their garden, including Nick Sr.’s prized sweet corn. To top it off,...
