Answers

whats some ways i can gain weight? and yes i lift weights?

well im 17 6'2 and about 140 pounds and i wanna gain more weight because im just kinda slinky but cut.But i wanna gain all muscle i dont wanna be one of those big guys with a bigg belly in the gym.

I play basketball could the running be the problem?

these are the things i have tried
1. Protein 3 times aday
2.Creatine
3.amino acids

but still im still skinny what can i do now?
i go to the gym 5 times a week

Lift heavy weights 3-4 sets of 8 to 10 reps.

Increase calorie and protein and carbohydrate intake.

If you are getting enough carbs, running shouldnt be a problem. The body uses carbs for energy. When the body uses up its carb intake, it starts burning fat. If there is no fat, it starts buring muscle.

Sounds like you need to eat more.

Oh yea, and drink plenty of water. 64 ounces a day is normal for someone who doenst exercise, so you should be drinking at least 100 ounces or more

How do i deal with an extra small torso and a huge butt?

I'm 5'6'' 125 lbs....i'm 20 years old....i'm definitely not over weight....but...all of my weight is actually in my lower half. I have a very flat stomach, no arm fat AT ALL, and honestly if i wasn't careful and if i only considered my torso i would be "too skinny." But then there is my lower half....i have thick legs....cellulite...and a but that is huge...and ya i know that guys and other people like small waist big butt...it just bothers me when your clothes fit to were you can wear a slinky top but its like a shelf when it hits your but and your shirt technically can't go any farther down cause it looks stupid.
I guess i'm asking a couple questions....
Either what exercises can i do which will help ot with slimming?
Also, i'm not saying i necessarily want plastic surgery...but i am interested in finding out what is out there and how it is done to help out with this? This isn't about other people and my image...its at the point where its me wanting me to feel better for mysef

Cellulite creams sold in the market have been found to be effective in averting the occurrence of cellulites but they cannot destroy the tissues completely. These creams contain alpha-hydroxyl acids don’t actually get rid of cellulites but instead increase the elasticity of the skin, thus making the cellulites less evident. http://losing-cellulite.info/

Did Slinky (rat) have a stroke?

Slinky is over three years old, and has been really showing signs of aging lately; lost weight, loss of hind legg usage, and now he can't use his front left paw. It's not dragging, and it isn't effecting his left side. I'm wondering if Slinky has had a stroke? He needs to be hand fed now, and still has a good apetite, but the weight is dropping off anyway.

Did Slink have a stroke?
How can I get weight on him?
I have added crushed egg shell to his diet, for the extra calcium, and soy milk- IS there anything I'm not doing that I should be doing? Slink is a good rat, and I can't bare the thought of losing another one..
Sorry I meant it's not affecting his right side.
Slinky eats a variety of fresh foods, including fruit, pasta, lab blocks, seeds, egg, and whatever I feed him off my own plate. He was quite fat up until about two months ago, now he is a fraction of himself.
He has to be wiped down with a cotton twice a day to keep his hind end clean, as he can't get to it to clean himself. I don't there is much that a vet can do for him at this point-
Spaz, it is only affecting the left side. One front paw. He can't do anything with it, and can't hold his food. He spends the day sleeping, and comes out at night for pets. He lets me know when he wants out to play, as I have to do everything for him.
(Not that I mind, after all this is Slinky we're talking about!) I have had slinky since he was three weeks old. I know he will tell me when it's time for him to go.
Spaz, he can't crouch as he has no use of his hind legs, which just drag behind him.

Two questions Teej:
Has he lost the use of both front paws, can he pick up and hold food in his paws?
Does he crouch with his back legs well forward, more then he use to?

Both of the above are classic signs of pituitary tumor.
http://ratguide.com/health/neoplasia/pituitary_tumor.php
Pit tumors are insidious. They grow slowly and thus slowly start to affect the rat's motor skills.

The classic sign of a stroke is paralysis down one side of the body. Strokes come on suddenly, without explanation.

He sounds like a very spoiled boy. Keep up the great work. You are right Teej a vet would only suggest euthanasia at this point. Palliative care is what Slinky needs most if you are willing to give him the time. He will tell you that he is ready to let go when he refuses all food and water.

Mayonnaise, avocado (avoid skin and pit), hard boiled eggs (powdered shells good source of calcium), baby food of every kind, soaked lab blocks in soy milk, watered down peanut butter, over-cooked grain cereals (oatmeal), Boost, chocolate, ice cream, custards...... think high-calories and/or the highest nutritional foods to keep on the weight. Soft foods so they are easy to eat and don't cause a choking hazard.

Edit:
Chinchilla dust = respiratory illness for rats

Edit:
Teej, it does sound like he had a stroke as his left side is weak. That's the classic stroke symptom. He also sounds like he has the hind-end weakness common in older male rats. Sometimes rats do recover back to some quality of life after a stroke. It will take time and aggressive nursing care on your part and I can tell you are willing to give it your all. His actions are telling you that he still wants to live.

Rats do not recover from a pit tumor. The disease is terminal.

I need a 7 day healthy weight gaining diet?

I am 21 years old...6 feet tall...and weigh 145 pounds...I look and feel skinny and the clothes I like to wear don't fit me really well...I am very slinky and long....I wanna look healthy and look like a man not a kid...if you can help I will appreciate it...thanks

I agree with the top one.

Tummy tuck after weight loss... should I?

I am interested in advice on a tummy tuck. Here's why.

All my life I have had a "pooch" in front. Even after I lost a lot of weight (I am 5'2", and weigh 128 lbs and am 39 years old). I go to the gym and work out both cardio and weights. At one point I was doing 200 sit ups at a time and going for 300. I could feel muscle tone beneath but the damned pooch was still there. This is incredibly discouraging when I am doing everything the fitness and diet magazine suggest!

My swim suits look bad, I want to wear a slinky dress without a bulge, and when I gained weight friends actually asked if I was pregnant.

I'm just about in tears because so many clothes make me look fat because of this and I'm at the lowest weight I've seen since I was in college.

Would this surgery help me at all? And does it last?

I had 2 c-sections with my babies- left with a nasty scar and hanging stomach- 18 months ago I had a tummy tuck, breast lift and some liposuction. I had a little more liposuction June 1 - I have the flattest tummy and I love it. Anyone who says having a tummy tuck is the easy way out- doesn't know what they're talking about. Also- going to the gym will not make the skin shrink...does it last- YES it permanent. I was willing to trade in my c-section scar for a tummy tuck scar-(hidden by bathing suit :) email me for photos unionjackess@yahoo.com

I can't gain any weight?

I'm 21 years old/male, 5'10 and weight about 155.

I eat 3 meals a day....i lift weights/bench press/curls etc, and i even throw in a few ensure drinks between meals cept i can't gain any weight.

My dad graduated at 5'11 145, and my mom was a slinky too, however my dad said he hit the gym everyday and got up to 190-200, i've done it it's still not working, anyone have any advice???

i mean i hate how ppl think it's so hard to lose weight, i'll give you my genes and you'll wish you could gain it.

Everybody in my family has the same problem. I'm an athlete so I know how it feels. I'm constantly in the power lifting weight room. Are you doing lighter weight with more repetitions or maxing out. To gain weight while exercising you need to max out. This builds bulk. Lighter weight/more reps just tones the muscles. Do heavier weights and keep with a protein and calcium rich diet and you should put some weight on.

On Programming, Computing and Intelligence

Introduction

For quite a while I’ve wanted to share my trials, tribulations, and final wonder for programming, and how it’s opened a plethora of insights into how I perceive the world to work. You might question the utter T-ness of such a discussion, and indeed I’ve been known to overdo many a topic. I’m probably doing the same for this one, but I can’t really help my romantic view of the world. I apologise before hand for the length and absolute abstract-ness of much of this discussion. I hope to have made it easier to digest by creating subsections, so you can skim through more easily.

The Model

In general, I like to view the world as a network or flow (depending on the nature/quality of the item in question) of an abstract matter. 1 . And in this framework, I put in nearly everything that “be”, whether it is economics and the flow of money/goods/services or the way we learn things, and the interconnected network of knowledge. I hope to elaborate on these topics later in this post. This article is just dump of all the thoughts that have been mulling in my head recently.

The Effect of Programming

For me, the act of programming has been channelling that ‘abstract flow’ of matter into another subsystem, setting it up so that it’s operation is (hopefully) clear and one that we can analyse. The remarkable thing (for me) has been that as my experience with programming has increased, that stream seems have found a way to put itself magically in order. Today, when I see a “task”, I generally can sense where the components are “naturally” separated, how they tie into each other. I see how each component ties into each other, how there is a flow of data between the two. And I model it thus, each component is a neat subsystem, a block, and I could draw a block-cutpoint graph 2 in my head. Of course, the block-cutpoint graph then translates into interface at each cut point. And you now have a network, and you can analyse how data flows between them. Furthermore, I am happy to say that I can now create “threads” for concious (i.e. not breathing or walking, etc.)tasks in my head, and schedule thought between them.
