I have been fishing for bluegill and trout with size 14 treble hooks and crawlers. Getting the crawler on the small treble hook sometimes is tricky. If I use a bigger hook, they might not fit in the fishes mouth.
Define a #8 nook

If you are going for trout try a # 6 eagle claw laser sharp hook . thread the crawler on the hook starting about 1/2 inch down from the head , run the crawler over the hook till you have about 1/2 " up on the line , bring the hook back out of the worm , turn it and reinsert the point of the hook back into the worm. (just like texas riggins for bass) this gives the worm a more natural lay in line with the hook and a more natural float in the water. for bluegills try a #8 nook and just go to the "mini crawlers and the same rigging. it should work fine for them .

I'm used to just throwing out some corn on a regular J hook when fishing for carp.Looking for some info on what size treble hook for carp in the one to ten pound range.Do certain baits work better on treble hooks,say a dough bait over corn? Any tips or ideas?

I would use a sort of smaller hook for corn, and a bigger one for dough baits. For corn, i would go for a small size 6. For dough bait, i would go with size 4. That's just my personal preference.

No certain baits work better on treble hooks, but it certainly makes some baits stick on better. "J shaped hooks" are good enough for corn. But most of the time dough baits require a treble hook unless you make it very thick.

I fish for 'em with baitholder hooks too. Those have barbs on the back of them to keep some baits on better.



EDIT : May i add, the carp i catch are of the same size as you listed. My doughball recipe consists of cinnamon, peanut butter, maple syrup, and bread. It stays on good with J shaped hooks. If you want to steal the recipe off of me, i don't give a hoot.

It was developed in Lake Havasu, and is supposed to be deadly on bass.

That would be a Castaic Platinum Series Swimbait I believe. I think I saw a program on FSN where they were using this bait or one similar to it with the magnetic hook attachment.

I live on the gulf coast and find live bait the best for trout and red fish.
I love the the green corks with a 10 ich drop,
but does anyone know the best hook for
trout so they get less damage to the mouth
if I have to throw them back.
I really fancy the size 20 but it seems to do
too much damage to the fish.

I use mostly a size 20, but will also use an 18 if I am out of 20's. The 20's are so small, I have not noticed damage to the fishes mouths.

It ate a bait covered treble hook that went to it's stomach, he dropped it off at the vet, do you think it will be okay or will they have to put it to sleep?

If they have the modern equipment, they can anesthetize the dog, and get the hook out using fiber-optics and an instrument without surgery...Otherwise, it would require surgery to remove the hook...

the dog should be fine, if he is otherwise healthy..but may need to recover for about 3 -4 weeks, if surgery is performed.

How do you use this? What is the spring for? How do you put a dough bait on it? Does it cost more then a normal hook? Any information will help and if there are any- Could you list a website that has info about it?

Tie it on the end of your line. It is used for fishing soft baits like Berkley power bait and dough balls. they normally cost more and in my opinion aren't worth the extra money.I've used both and will stick with regular treble hooks. good luck.
