I was watching youtube and these people were actually swallowing tape worms to loose weight, they were just floating around in there belly's and eating the food that was being dropped in.
YUCK. I saw that in a museum once. Women used to buy them at the pharmacist in the 1800's as a means of weight loss. (so they could fit into those nasty whale-bone corsets, I suppose)
Even worse?
They'd give the women something to kill it, and you'd (hang onto yourselves) poop it out. In one....long.... piece....
OK, thank you for grossing us all out tonight!
:-P
Wondering what the weight is of an average Canadian nightcrawler. I'd figure it out myself, but I don't have a scale fine enough.
You mean an earthworm? Slightly more than a gram.
Can you find the weight of a tube worm living on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean?
Sorry, I couldn't find anything on it's weight except that their sybiotic bacteria make up half the body weight. It would be hard to find the individual weight seeing as how they grow in clusters and you have to uproot the entire cluster to bring it back to the surface, and they live at the very bottom of the sea. Sorry for no deffinite answer.
Hello all. I am doing a project for school that talks about urban myths. I have heard that tape worms help you lose weight, but I need to find out if it helps you lose weight because of the vitamin/mineral loss or because the worm eats the food. Either way, it's pretty stupid. Anyway, any help is appreciated. Also, if you can, please list a source that I can use. Thank you.
you lose all your nutrients and weight because the worms are just constantly eating all of the nutrients from the food you consume which will then make you lose weight.
It seems that Maria Calas ate a lot of tartar steaks and got infected with a tape worm and it transformed her from a almost obese person to a slim and shapely woman.
FYI I was just wondering, i am not fat! I saw it on oprah...so i was just wondering... Dr Oz had it on there...just a question

Symptoms That You May Have Intestinal Parasites
Unfortunately, many of us, regardless of our hygienic habits, will acquire intestinal parasites in our lifetime. It's not always a matter of personal cleanliness but rather of what we eat and how we eat it. Sometimes, even our consumption habits are not to blame. These little gut invaders can be placed there any number of ways. What is really important at this time is how you can tell if you might be infected by harmful intestinal parasites. This article will deal with the common symptoms that may manifest themselves if in fact an infection has taken place.
Since there are several types of parasites that may invade the gut, we'll start with the most common and obvious. This would be the worms. Yes, you could be a sufferer of a worm infestation and you could have acquired them by eating raw or under cooked meat or even vegetables. If you drink infected water or if you are bitten by insects who are carriers you can be infected in this manner. There are not just a few of these parasitic worms known. The number of types of worms known to invade humans is around 100. While some of them are so small they can only be viewed with a microscope, others are easily viewed by the naked eye.
When the worms are ingested or taken into the body, they embed themselves in your intestines, usually in the intestinal lining of either the stomach, the small or the large intestines. Once there, they make themselves comfortable and dine on the same food that you are eating. They have nothing else to do but eat, release wastes and breed. They may lay many eggs and many of their young survive and make themselves at home in your system too.
As these little creatures release their waste products into...
